Cape May County’s Early Families

Most of the early settlers in Cape May County came from Long Island, New York. Others came from Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Burlington, West Jersey. Many of the earliest settlers were whalers, though raising cattle and harvesting timber were important early industries as well.
