Cape May County History
Lower Township
Villas & Fishing Creek
In the 1920s, Joseph Millman bought
a farm in Fishing Creek which he sub divided and promoted a small development
called Wildwood Villas. The Wildwood part of the name was dropped in 1931
when the Villas post office opened. Villas beach was the center of Cape
May's caviar industry from 1899-1914.
Fishing Creek was one of the very early
settlements in the county. Farms were established and lumbering became
a major industry. (Earlier name was Teal Town).
