Research Fee for Members:
Free, if member performs research at our Library.
Genealogy Research Fee for Non-members:
$5/hour or $25.00/day or become a member for $25.00 and receive
unlimited use of our Library.
Genealogy Requests received via email, fax or mail:
Specific inquiries regarding Cape May County ancestors will be
researched in our Society’s files which include: Cape May County Federal
Census, surname files, newspaper index, cemetery and Bible records,
index to wills and other library resources. The service is limited and
is not intended to duplicate the work of a professional genealogist.
An initial fee of $20.00 prepaid is requested to cover two hours of
research by the staff, regardless of results. We will utilize a variety
of resources available here at the library. Each additional hour of
research is $10.00; photocopies are $ .25 per page. Due to our limited
staffing, there is a maximum of four hours for each request. Your
request will be answered within three months. Microfilm copy .50 per
page. Photograph copy (scanned) $25 set up, $2 for each copy.
Inquiries should provide as much detail as possible with regard to
names, dates and places and should state what sources have already been
searched. To submit a research query by mail, please specify the amount
of time you will authorize us to spend searching for information and
enclose a check or money order, made payable to the Cape May County
Historical Society, for the number of hours requested.
Library Procedures:
• No eating, drinking or smoking
• Please use your cell phone outside of the library
• All photocopying and digital imaging is performed by the librarian or
staff – no personal equipment allowed
• Please use the provided white gloves while handling historical
documents
• Please ask the librarian or staff for all research materials
• Please return all research materials to the librarian or staff
• Keep all documents and photographs in mylar – DO NOT REMOVE!
• All materials must remain in the library
• Use pencil only – no pens allowed
• Keep belongings (bags, purses, etc.) off the tables
